Charles Robert Darwin (12 February 1809 – 19 April 1882) was an English naturalist[I] who convinced the scientific community with his writings and a mass of evidence that species evolve over time through the process of natural selection.[1] His theory of natural selection subsequently became central to the modern evolutionary synthesis as the unifying theory of the life sciences, essential in biology and important in other disciplines such as anthropology, psychology and philosophy.
